After the rain all through the night, the ground in Bourke turned to mud. This complicated pack-up somewhat, with mud like superglue grabbing onto shoes and trying to suck them off your feet, and wet canvas that had to be folded over the beds. We tested our theory, with laying a tarp on the inside of the camper over all the beds (spoiler alert - it worked a treat!), and I got taller, with all the mud caked on my shoes.
We got away ok by 7.30. It would have been sooner, but the mud meant we put the kids in the car first to keep their feet clean. :)
Drove to Cobar, where we stopped at the information centre to use the facilities and the lady was very enthusiastic, sharing some history with us and marking up a map with places if interest, including a delicious bakery. This is a place we wished we had more time to spend exploring, and if we drive that way again, we will plan to stay here.
Zane thought Cobar was called crowbar, which set off some giggles.
We checked out one mine, open cut for the first 150m, and another 600m further down, people are still working to mine gold. The size and colours were spectacular.
We found this at the mine lookout - apparently we were not too far away from Mt Boppy. The boys thought that was hilarious.
The boys pulled out their hats and sunglasses today. Toby wanted to see what he looked like and because there was no mirror, tried to make Isaiah put his on, so he could see what he looked like.
Quick toilet stop in Wilcannia, then on to Broken Hill.
We have seen lots of kangaroos, mostly squashed, heaps of wild goats and emus, a few wild pigs, crows, sheep, cows, horses, a flock of sulphur crested cockatoos and one wedge tailed eagle.
Massive flock of cockatoos that flew across the road in front of us.
It's funny how much you miss seeing hills after a few hours.
We have stopped at Thackaringa rest area for the night, about 15km from the NSW/SA border.
We are the only ones here, which is lovely.
