Day Seventeen - June 26

I took Toby to the enviro centre to exchange Laurens recycling bottles for coins this morning, then grabbed some groceries, before heading back to pack up and get on the road. Zane is still not all the way recovered, but if we don't start now, we will run out of time.

We had lunch before hitting the road and driving down to Pine Creek and into Kakadu.
We have set up camp at Kambolgie, and are driving down the very dusty, corrugated dirt road to Gunlom. There is a hike/climb that takes you up to a lookout at the top of a waterfall, and overlooks a collection of plunge pools.

They were beautiful. The water flows over the rocks, waterfall into pool into waterfall into pool, over and over. Lots of people climbed up in their swimmers, and risked the crocodiles for the cool clear water. The deep murky edges were enough to put me off. It did look fabulous though.

It was only 1 km up, but it was mostly a scramble, lots of patches that needed hands and feet. I piggybacked Z up the first half, but then it was just too hard. He was a trooper though, and toughed it out.

Two little people fell asleep on the way back to camp, so there were only four around the dinner table tonight.

Happy grub
